NGIS shines at Locate24: celebrating success and innovation in geospatial technology

,

Last month, NGIS had the pleasure of being the premium sponsor at Locate24, a premier event packed with highlights and opportunities for the geospatial community. The bustling three-day conference, held at ICC in Sydney, saw over 1000 delegates attend from around Australia and overseas. It was a fantastic platform for connecting with our peers, partners and geospatial professionals. We extend a heartfelt thankyou to everyone who visited our booth, engaged in insightful conversations and made the event truly memorable.

Celebrating Excellence in Geospatial Achievements

The Geospatial Council of Australia (GCA) recognised outstanding contributions in the field with the Geospatial Excellence Awards.Ā  Congratulations to Nathan Eaton, Executive Director of NGIS, and Andrew Dowding, Managing Director of Winyama, on their well-deserved award wins.

Bruce Thompson Innovation Award: Nathan Eaton, a geospatial enabler who has made many positive impacts at a global scale, such as the ongoing body of work on coastal risk in Vanuatu.

J.K. Barrie Award for Highest Achievement: Winyama, for its commitment to progressing indigenous achievement in the geospatial sector.

Workforce Development and Inclusion: Winyama for its Indigenous Mapping Workshop Narrm project.

Sharing Innovations and Insights at Locate24

Our team members were actively involved in several well-attended sessions throughout the conference, where they shared their expertise on various topics. Highlights included:

  • NSW Imagery Hub: Exploring the latest advancements in state-wide imagery integration.
  • Bushfire-Prone Mapping: Discussing new methodologies and technologies in mapping bushfire-prone areas.
  • On-Farm Water Storage and Retrieval Using Google Earth Engine: Demonstrating innovative approaches to manage water resources effectively.

Keynote Address: From Data to Difference

A special highlight of Locate24 was the plenary delivered by Paul Farrell, CEO of NGIS, in the Pyrmont Theatre. Titled “From Data to Difference – Delivering Impact Through Geospatial,” Paul opened up the conversation about the profound impact the geospatial sector has on communities globally. His address emphasised the importance of understanding ‘why we do what we do’ and showcased how data can drive meaningful change.

Looking Ahead

Locate24 was an inspiring and energising event for all who attended. As we reflect on the achievements celebrated and the knowledge shared, we are motivated to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the geospatial sector. Thank you once again to everyone who made Locate24 an unforgettable experience. We look forward to seeing you at future events and continuing to drive innovation and excellence in our field.

Stay tuned for more updates from NGIS and our ongoing projects and initiatives!
