Training FAQ’s

As industry leaders in geospatial solutions, we’re committed to delivering high-quality training that empowers professionals at all skill levels. Our courses are led by experienced consultants who bring real-world expertise to every session, whether you’re just starting your GIS journey or looking to advance your capabilities.

Expert-Led Learning for Your GIS Journey

Below you’ll find answers to common questions about our training programs, from course selection and delivery methods to customised solutions for teams. If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, our team is always happy to help.

Our Foundations courses are suitable for those new to geospatial software, as a place to start your learning journey. They are also well suited for those using geospatial software but wish to improve on existing workflows and unlock further capabilities.

NGIS trainers are highly knowledgeable geospatial industry experts delivering real world projects on the ground. They are our Professional Services consultants who use GIS in their everyday work at NGIS. Besides understanding the theory behind the technology, they also possess deep practical knowledge and are uniquely positioned to share those tips, tricks and shortcuts with participants during our courses.
We showcase a select few of our most experienced trainers on our website, highlighting their depth of skills and industry expertise.

Each participant will receive a course manual. They are a great resource to look back on once you have completed your training course. We provide the manual in pdf format for online courses and hard copy for in-person courses. You’ll also receive a completion certificate and the option to take part in a feedback survey after your training course is completed.

Yes, absolutely. For many clients we create customised training materials to support technical knowledge transfer at times of organisational and technological change. These may be a mix of our standard courses plus bespoke content built especially to fit your unique requirements.

Please share your request with us via our online form and we will be in touch.

Please contact us using the online form. We will contact you directly and provide details about how to complete your registration. If you are booking an individual place on a public course, we ask that payment is made in full before the course starts.

Selecting a course

There aren’t any prerequisites for our beginner foundations courses such as ArcGIS Pro Foundations and QGIS Foundations. We do require that all learners are familiar with using Microsoft Windows, however.

Some of our intermediate and advanced courses may have prerequisites. If they do, they will be listed under the course information.

Our intermediate and advanced courses build on the skills and techniques taught in the foundations courses. Please check our course calendar for upcoming intermediate and advanced courses available. View Training Calendar.

If your learning was provided in a private group setting, please reach out to us to arrange a follow-on course.

For private group training we can provide post-training support blocks. These are a great way to continue conversations with your trainer to help embed learned skills into your team’s workflows, long after the course takes place.

Delivery Mode

Yes, we can. This is a great option for group / team learning and we can deliver it for groups of five or more participants. Please tell us more about your requirements by filling in our online form and we will be in contact.

Yes, we do! Most of our courses are offered as either in-person or online, and we provide a spread of dates for both delivery types across the year.

Our online courses are conducted using Microsoft Teams and your trainer will stay with you for the entirety of the course.

You can reach out to us via the online form. We would be delighted to talk further about how we can support your team’s needs. In most cases we will need a minimum of five participants to deliver our private group courses.

Preparation

We will email you with all the necessary details about your course approximately 2 weeks before the scheduled course date. Depending on the course delivery type, i.e. in-person or online, the email will include details such as the location of the training or how to prepare for your online course.

Our in-person public courses are delivered at our NGIS offices in Perth and Brisbane.

We will provide a light lunch and can accommodate specific dietary needs. If you have any other requirements to support your learning, please let us know and we will do our best to help you.

We will email you all the details you’ll need to know about your course, approximately 2 weeks before the scheduled course date.

For online courses you will need access to a laptop. Approximately a week prior to the scheduled course date we will email instructions to help you connect to your virtual machine on your first day of training.

For some online courses you won’t need a virtual machine, in which case, you’ll just need your laptop to take part. Either way, we will let you know what you’ll need in advance of the course start date.

During your course we ask that you set aside a comfortable environment and if possible, access to two screens to support your learning.

Virtual courses start at 9:00am local time for Melbourne/Sydney/Canberra and usually finish around 4:30-5:00pm each day. Our in-person courses in Perth and Brisbane begin at 9:00am local time. For both delivery types we encourage you to join at least 15 minutes earlier to settle in and meet your trainer and co-learners.

For our in-person licensed software courses we will provide you with a laptop and the necessary licenses to take part in the training. For online courses, we will provide a virtual machine with software licenses which you will connect to remotely from your laptop/PC for the duration of the training.

If you notify us 10 days before the scheduled course that you are unable to attend, we are more than happy to reschedule you to the next available course or we can issue you a full refund. If it is within 10 days, then you are welcome to send a substitute attendee in your place.

Miscellaneous

We aim to run all our public courses with a minimum of 5 participants.  The maximum number of participants is 8. Very occasionally we have courses with low enrolment, and in these instances, we may need to cancel or postpone the course. When this happens, we do our very best to reschedule you to the next available course, or we can offer you a refund.

Certainly. You can email us at training@ngis.com.au and we can keep you updated on any new courses that we build.

Absolutely. We are always adapting and building content, and your feedback is crucial to help us create materials that deliver value and are fit for purpose.

Email us anytime at training@ngis.com.au or if you have just completed a training course you are welcome to share your suggestions in your course feedback survey.

That’s OK. Please contact us via our online form and we can help you decide which course is best for you, based on your skills and experience.
