Coastal Risk Australia shows worsening sea-level changes

NGIS Australia have updated Coastal Risk Australia, to show the worsening effects of coastal flooding driven by climate change. This years’ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported in the US revealed an increase in sea levels by 2.7 metres by 2100, following on a high- emissions path. This was initially considered a worst case scenario when Coastal Risk first released in 2015.

NOAA’s report also included the latest scientific results on Greenland’s and Antarctica’s rapid ice melt and ice sheet instability. Along with this, we have also experienced the warmest global surface temperature on record, setting new records for the past two years. These events will have massive implications for Australia’s coastline.

Australia’s iconic coastal communities will be impacted by sea level rise and billions of dollars of infrastructure will be at risk. Coastal Risk Australia now addresses these latest reports to visually communicate the effects of Climate Change.
