NGIS supports the SSSI WA LIFE2019 conference

NGIS Australia was proud to support the Western Australia Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) Location Intelligence Forum and Exhibition 2019 (LIFE2019), which took place in Perth on 4th September 2019.

The event, held at Optus Stadium, gathers current and emerging leaders in Western Australia’s geospatial and surveying community to discuss current trends and topics that face their industry.

This year’s conference theme was #FlyHigher and the line-up of speakers certainly rose to the challenge, inspiring attendees in the room to consider what is possible with the power of geospatial.

The day included presentations covering the role of geospatial in shaping city growth, freight and logistics, GDA 2020 Datum transformations, geospatial for disease diagnosis and more.

NGIS and Winyama had a slot to educate attendees about the role of Indigenous spatial knowledge and connection to country.

The presentation, introduced by NGIS’ Managing Director, Paul Farrell, and delivered by Winyama’s Managing Director, Andrew Dowding, took participants on a virtual journey to Ngarluma country in North West Australia, where Andrew and his family are from.

“Indigenous Australians have been mapping our country for tens of thousands of years, but now is the time to connect Indigenous traditional knowledge with the emerging economy, Andrew and I believe that geospatial is the perfect tool to bring these two worlds together,” said Paul Farrell.

The NGIS and Winyama team attended the Western Australia Spatial Excellence Awards (APSEA) in the evening where Winyama took away the 2019 People and Community Award for their work on the Indigenous Mapping Workshop Australia.

NGIS congratulates all of the winners of the WA APSEA awards and wishes all of the category winners the best of luck at the national awards, set to take place in Brisbane in March 2020.
